Off to the “doctor’s” for a checkup today (the preservers that is).
Only one of them is actually ailing, the one on the left. After 35 years of its being overworked and underpaid it’s hardly surprising. The plug that goes into the unit seems to have a little problem.
The other two have been in the shed for a season or two, so they merely need testing and tagging for safety’s sake. They were gifts from friends, and I greatly treasure them.
With many more of last week’s picking of quinces left to process, and more to come, it will be all hands on deck for the preservers.
The apples will be coming in soon too, so looks like we will have 5 electric preservers on the go, as well as the stovetop one on the slow combustion stove.
Do we use al this preserved fruit? People often ask us this. My word yes. We share it around family and friends, and I love the fact that I can throw a cake, meal or treat together in no time with a pantry full of seasonal goodness, held in suspended animation.
