For each Custard Club’s Wednesday morning tea I try to invent a new recipe.
Today it’s a bit of a mix – these are Pao de Deus buns, a traditional Portuguese treat.
I’ve made these before and they were very popular – no wonder with their caramelised rum and coconut topping.
This morning I made, now the chooks are laying again, a rich egg custard for the centre of each bun. It made them all the more delicious I have to say.
Rustic they may be, filled warm as they were straight from the oven but they were very well received.
A large platter went to the morning tea, and the several remaining are likely to vanish this afternoon when people drop in for a cuppa or dinner.
