Lots of fun in the cheese making class here today. Before everyone arrived, I trialled some kefir muffins with apricots and lime. That was to accompany coffee before we started. (Here they are just before baking) Haloumi. Mozarella, Ricotta 2 ways, Paneer, Labna and more were on the list of cheeses to be prepared. By … Continue reading Cheese Making Class

And then there was dinner….
Meanwhile in the kitchen, dinner preparation is late. However, I am hoping it will be good (I know there will be leftovers, there's way too much for the two of us). There's stuffed mushrooms and capsicums, also meatballs roasted with black garlic and rosemary that will be served with a roasted pumpkin sauce.
Rosie the Rascal Cat
Well, I've been practising making cheese, as indeed I've written recently. I attended a workshop for extra tips from Mad Mille company at Habitat store last week. Each guest received a gift of a cheese making kit. Today in Hobart I purchased a large container for all my cheese making gear, and left the empty … Continue reading Rosie the Rascal Cat
Cheese making
Hi ho the dairy-o, it's cheese making I go! Having, for once, an almost free day, I am allowing myself the indulgence of making cheese for the next several hours. Mozarella, halloumi, ricotta two ways, paneer, cottage cheese and more, plus kefir, yoghurt and labna. Not altogether sure I will have enough milk for all … Continue reading Cheese making
Mavis’s Hop Yeast Bread
Listeners to ABC radio 936 Tasmania on August 22nd might remember the mention of a hop yeast and bread. It was given to me by Mavis Beattie, a recipe that has been in her family for generations. Our Tom
When you once were a feral, bliss is the warmth of a house to call home and a basket you've commandeered from the other two resident cats. The look on Tom's face says it all.
But wait, there’s more
OK, can't resist it, here are some more photos from this morning, taken by Robert and Stephanie. The snow has almost melted now unfortunately, but we've been especially lucky to have two days of winter wonderland here this year, most unexpected as we were told that snow wouldn't settle here. Can you spot Poppy the … Continue reading But wait, there’s more
Snow again!
It's snowing here even more than last time. Absolutely beautiful! I'm told that it's quite a rare occurrence that snow actually settles in this little corner of the valley, so this is really special.
Sad Day indeed
People who have come here might recall our dear old beagle Della, always a happy face to greet a visitor (especially if there was a hint of food). Sadly today, just a few minutes ago, she passed away. She was such a faithful, gentle old thing and certainly an integral part of our family for … Continue reading Sad Day indeed
