No power here for a few hours today.
There’s produce to process – beautiful quinces for instance, a gift from a friend.
That poem made mention of marmalade (which the king considered to be a very unsatisfactory alternative to butter).
However, now I really, REALLY want some. I have no oranges on hand though, so quince marmalade it will be but that’s ok, it’s delicious too.
While there’s no electricity for a while, this can still be done thanks to having the cooktop on the wood heater.
The quince jelly can be finished there also, and the green tomatoes salted down for a chutney, and then simmered there for the hours it needs.
So no need for an unproductive day after all.
