New kid on the block, just installed yesterday – this beauty is a Thermalux Gourmet Cooker, a wood heater and oven all in the one unit.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the little metal plaque on the bottom – “Wise Living”, seems fitting. Even the gift tea towels beat the same logo.

Following the manufacturer’s instructions, just a small fire lit on this, its first day – to burn off the fumes as well as getting the heater ready to swing into action in days and months (years even) to come.
It will be a great multi-tasker, heating the house for us, while at the same time allowing for cooking on its stovetop and in the oven. Perfect!! Can’t wait to put it through its paces……

Hi Sally
Please keep us updated on its ability to heat up your whole home. Looks great by the way.
Cheers Roscoe

We’ve been using one for 24 Years. Great cooktop & fantastic Pizza & Scones from the Oven. Highly recommended. In Albury-Wodonga area, Mr Stoves Poolworld, Mate St N Albury. 2 previous homes with freestanding & inbuilt wood fires, so we’ve been heating with wood for a long time.

Dear Sally. Could you let us know what is the highest oven temperature you have reached in the Gourmet Cooker? Can it get to the same temperature as the modern outdoor portable pizza ovens like the Ooni??

Hi Jos. I am not sure of the actual temperature – the gauge needle reaches the vertical position. I think this is about 200 degrees, at least that is what it bakes like (perfect for baking bread for instance). It will go higher but things start to burn in that case. I haven’t used an outdoor pizza oven such as an Ooni. Best wishes, Sally
