Fragmented Baking, necessity being the mother of invention as it is!

It’s been a while since I’ve put up a post. I had an op on my eyes about three weeks ago, and screen time has been limited and uncomfortable to say the least.

Baking also has been restricted, much to my displeasure. After two weeks I was well and truly fed up with that, so developed a method to cope with the limited capacity to bake. I call it fragmented baking.

In the photo here are examples:

The pumpkin cake – I cooked the pumpkin one day, and baked the cake the next.

The kiss biscuits – I made the dough one day, rolled it out and baked the biscuits the next. The day after that they were joined together with jam and iced.

The melting moments – similarly, the shortbread dough was mixed one day, piped and baked the next (after a few seconds in the microwave to soften the dough once more so it could be piped).

The next day their lemon butter icing was made and the shortbreads joined together.

The spicy date and raisin rolls – the dough was made one day, filling the next, then rolled, filled and baked the third day.

Thus by yesterday morning, with people likely to drop in over the weekend, there was a respectable amount for people to enjoy with their cuppa.

No sooner were the plates put out, and the kettle boiling on top of the wood heater than friends, family and neighbours progressively arrived.

I actually have come to see the benefits of this style of staggered preparation and baking. I might make it a habit I think!

Fragmented cooking.. neat term!. I’m physically disabled and I live my life this way.. I too fragment my cooking.. less tiring!.. I’m glad you are getting better. Looking forward to more fragmented ideas.
