Apple Crumble

Apple Crumble

8 cooking apples (such as Granny Smiths), peeled, cored and diced

¼ cup water

Pinch of ground cloves (optional)

½ cup sugar, approximately

1 cup self raising flour

½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed

75g butter, diced

Turn oven to 170°C (fan forced).  Grease a 20cm casserole dish.

Place the apples, water and ground cloves (if using) in a saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring occasionally.  Simmer for about 10 minutes or until the apples are tender.  Pour into the casserole dish.

Place the flour, sugar and butter in the bowl of a food processor and process until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs (or rub butter into the flour and sugar with the fingertips).

Sprinkle over the apple and bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is browned and crunchy.
