Thought I’d do a bit of baking – fruit cakes high on the agenda.
Robert has always loved a good fruit cake, and this is what I came across in my pantry cupboard – I simply can’t resist it when dried fruit and nuts are on sale.
“What sort of cake or cakes would you like?” I ask him, thinking he would have at least two or three in mind.
“Just a pumpkin fruit cake will be fine,” he says. “Nothing else.” So now I’ve put it all away again, tired of not having any space on the dining table.
Perhaps in this heat I will look through some cookbooks for inspiration this afternoon. A friend has lent me several really wonderful hand-written ones, family heirlooms, the best sort of all.
