A gift from a kind friend yesterday. A large box full of beautiful lilly pillies.
Thanks Lalani (and Dan).
The lilly pillies are preserved now – into a syrup and also a lovely bright jelly. The syrup can be used as a basis for a cool summer drink, as a coulis, an ice cream topping, a flavouring and more besides.
Here are the jars and bottles now, sitting pretty amongst the two batches of yoghurt cheese, hanging in readiness for the cheese making class here tomorrow.
Later in the week – there will be a little something made from the jelly and/or syrup to take to a morning tea.
That’s the best of having preserves on hand – it’s like a tapestry of colour and flavour to add to other dishes.
Speaking of colour – how deliciously delicate is the colour of lilly pilly syrup and jelly
