Sometimes here we have a cooking day just for the fun of it, a whole day just set aside for friends and family to come and cook together. Recently we spent just such a day, making sausages of all shapes, sizes and flavours. Neighbours came, friends, family and more.
Daughter Stephanie and husband Nat were at the helm that day, having made sausages at home many times before. Providing extra advice on technicalities were friends Todd and Pete from Tassie Discount Meats.
A few months ago we picked quinces from the tree of our now-friends Rob and wife Jacqui. They provided a sheep for the lamb varieties of sausages, and everyone chipped in with ingredients and/or help, even the children.
Eight different types of sausage were made in all, Spiced Lamb, Lamb Merguez, Lamb, Mint and Rosemary, Mexican Chorizo, Bratwurst, Pork and Apple, Italian Sweet (Pork and Fennel), and Pepper Beef (Beef, Worcestershire and Black Pepper).
Who knows, one day we may include sausage making as one of the classes we run in the school, but for now it’s great to reflect on a wonderful day of creativity, productivity, feasting and fun with family and friends.
